Our Approach

E-opala Incorporated is Hawai'i's first and only consumer and industry level e-waste demanufacturing plant. We retrieve, reuse, and recycle electronic products to reduce waste, preserve the environment, and fund IT accessibility to underprivileged communities.

Our Story

Our founder, Jason Gruver, came from a hippy commune background with the "reuse everything" mentality instilled in him from his childhood. He was inspired to do a recycling project when he realized that there was no convenient way to recycle electronics in Hawai'i. Over the two years it took to get a permit from the state of Hawai'i, the company expanded from an electronic recycling company to one that also realized the need to give back to the community. As a result, E-opala started a program to donate fixed computers, printers, and monitors to people in need. E-opala, as the first and only company in the state of Hawai'i with an electronic recycling permit, feels a strong commitment to the environment and the local community.

Meet the Team

Most of the team members were homeless or living on the streets. Jason and E-opala took them in and offered them a second chance and an opportunity to learn new skills and become gainfully employed.
